Experience with studying abroad – Business and Culture in Wroclaw, Poland

One of our current students, Dmytro Gladun, has recently had a chance to broaden his perspective and spent some time studying in Wroclaw, Poland. Below, you can read of his experiences and knowledge he gained there.

Cześć!

As part of my Executive MBA program at Prague University of Economics and Business (VSE), I had the wonderful opportunity to embark on an international experience at Wroclaw University of Economics and Business in Poland. This visit became not only an academic journey for me but also an immersion into the unique culture and history of Wroclaw.

Collaboration between VSE and Wroclaw University of Economics and Business

This opportunity became a reality thanks to the partnership between my Executive MBA program at VSE and Wroclaw University of Economics and Business. I would like to express special gratitude to the program Director, Maja Kiba-Janiak, and the program coordinator, Aleksandra Mikła, for their efforts in organizing this experience. Their support made my stay in Wroclaw productive and comfortable.

Wroclaw – A City of History and Opportunities

Wroclaw is a city with a rich history and vibrant cultural life, which provided an ideal backdrop for my studies. Its ancient architecture, such as the Market Square and the Gothic Wroclaw Cathedral, harmoniously blends with modern elements, reflecting Poland’s dynamic development. This contrast inspired me to gain a deeper understanding of how historical heritage and modern economic realities can coexist and complement each other.

Academic Experience: Managerial Behavior and Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility

During my stay in Wroclaw, I attended two courses that left a profound impression on me:

The first one was Managerial Behavior, taught by Professor Marzena Stor.

This course focused on studying various management styles and their effectiveness in different cultural contexts. Professor Stor used interactive teaching methods—case studies and group discussions—which allowed me to critically assess how leadership should adapt to multinational teams. Particularly valuable were the discussions with classmates from different countries, highlighting the importance of cultural sensitivity in management.

The second class I attended was Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility with Dr. Lukasz Haromszeki.
Dr. Haromszeki’s course explored the role of ethics in business decision-making and the significance of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in creating sustainable value. Through real-world examples and practical assignments, I realized how companies can balance profitability with care for society and the environment. This course made me reflect on the long-term consequences of business strategies.

Beyond the Classroom: Cultural Experience

In addition to my studies, I thoroughly enjoyed exploring Wroclaw. I visited historical landmarks such as the Market Square with its colorful houses and Tumski Island, known as the “heart of Wroclaw.” Polish cuisine always incredible — I tried traditional dishes like pierogi with meat and cabbage and zurek, which impressed me with their taste and simplicity. Interacting with locals and other students helped me better understand Polish culture, its hospitality, and warmth.

Ready for What the Future Holds

This experience in Wroclaw was transformative for me. The academic knowledge gained from the courses was complemented by practical observations of how business and culture intersect in real life. I became more confident in navigating global contexts, which will undoubtedly benefit my future career.I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the executive director of my program at VSE, Vojtěch Opleštil, for providing this opportunity. Without his support and belief in the value of international experience, this journey would not have been possible. My international experience in Wroclaw became an unforgettable adventure that combined academic rigor with cultural enrichment. It gave me new knowledge, friends, and a broader perspective on the world of business. I am confident that the skills and perspectives I gained in Poland will accompany me throughout my professional life, helping me tackle the challenges of a globalized world.
