About the MBA Degree
What is an MBA?
The MBA degree (Master of Business Administration) is in the Czech Republic derived from the Anglo-Saxon university tradition (Business Schools) and management practice. As this type of study is not legally enshrined in the Czech Higher Education Act No. 111/1998 Coll., the MBA is not an academic title, but a professional one.
The title is abbreviated as MBA after the name.
Who can provide an MBA diploma?
Even though any agency or school can from a purely legal point of view provide an “MBA diploma” for a few weekend meetings, responsible candidates and demanding employers do judge who has granted the degree to the graduate (candidate) and decide on the study or graduate accordingly. Usually, a significantly higher quality of learning achieve those schools, which submit their MBA programmes to be internationally recognized by prestigious accreditations (AACSB, EQUIS, FIBAA, AMBA). Another option practised in our country is having the programme covered by a foreign university.
The MBA programme at the Faculty of Business Administration at Prague University of Economics and Business has been awarded the prestigious international accreditation by AMBA in 2021. The Faculty of Business Administration is also the only faculty in the Czech Republic to hold the prestigious international EQUIS accreditation.
How is an MBA different from other degrees?
The MBA is a globally recognised general, postgraduate qualification in lifelong learning. It is a practically oriented study, thus suitable for a candidate who has been working in an independently responsible position for several years. In this way, he or she not only benefits from the experience and teaching of the lecturers in the study group, but also from their fellow students who meet the same criteria. In this sense, the programme offers an enhancement of previous professional experience and often an acceleration of a career according to one’s field or specialization.
With a declared practical focus based on an academic environment, the MBA programme therefore fundamentally differs from standard corporate courses (practical training) or conventional university programmes focused more or less on theoretical knowledge.
